A Family Club – Players and families working together

Of course, one of the most wonderful highlights about our club is all our fantastic players and the efforts they put in all year to give their best and help their teammates by improving their skills and having fun! Wonderful kids, make wonderful teams, and make the backbone of a wonderful club. BMKAFL couldn’t be prouder of all our players and the great efforts they put into 2016.

Speaking of great efforts; the supportive and generous attitudes of parents helping out in 2016 proves how much they love their wonderful kids. Parents being involved at training, cooking on the BBQ, serving in the canteen, keeping score, running boundary lines, and all the other tasks and duties required to field a team and keep a club running, shows their kids by example that by giving some time/effort to the community they are in is rewarding and beneficial to everyone, themselves and their kids.

Teams don’t just happen!

On the field, the players weren’t the only ones putting in a great year. Our coaches did a sterling job with all our teams – the great advancement of the players skills and teamwork shown throughout the season and enjoyment of the game is hinged around the coaches. Our teams may not have won a premiership trophy at the end of the year, but that pales in comparison the shining heart of gold the players had standing with them on the sidelines/training to look up to and admire all year long.

And as they say, “behind every coach is a great manager”, keeping the team-machine oiled and functioning with some of the less glorious (not less rewarding) behind the scenes functions. Our coaches and managers were instrumental in making 2016 a great year.

Building the future

Off the field the committee has invested in jerseys and equipment for players and lighting at Tom Hunter Park has now been completed that will allow for night games to be played and improve conditions for training.

Another successful Trivia Night both provided a great social night for club members and friends as well as raising some much needed funds. Presentations were held in a new format which hopefully were well received.

Like the GIANTS, we are expecting big things in an even bigger & better 2017. We are working to continue to grow numbers across all age groups and look forward to welcoming both returning and new players to the club. Please bring some friends along to give AFL a go.

At our recent AGM our new executive and committee has been formed and we welcome a number of new members onto the committee in 2017. A huge thanks to Virginia Blakemore, Ricky Spencer and Michael Quaine for putting your hands up to be involved on the committee. They join a fully returning committee with Tanya McGannon again accepting the role of Treasurer and Steve Price continuing as Secretary. Dario Falchi will continue as Vice President and we are working to find someone to support him in this role. They are joined by Kate O’Grady, Roz Thomas, Lyle Thomas, Duncan Cameron, Paul McGannon and Roger Cheesman who help share the workload. I feel privileged and honoured to again be given the opportunity to act as President of such a great club and committee.
